A few days ago my brother, my grandparents and I went to Titchfield Haven nature reserve. Titchfield Haven is on the coast between Southampton and Portsmouth overlooking the Isle of Wight.
This was a special visit because I saw my first Waterail, I tried to take a picture of the incredibly elusive bird but due to the denseness of the reeds it was in, I couldn’t focus the camera on it.
- This Kestrel was the first bird we saw when we arrived.
- Good to see a gadwall. This is the first time I have seen one of these.
- There were quite a few godwits like this at the reserve.
- An interesting image with different birds perching on the same fence, a Buzzard, some cormorants and a heron.
- Turnstones foraging on the beach.
- At one of the hides there were tonnes of lapwings.
- Very majestic Avocet.
- Female Shoveler with strikingly long beak used for sifting through the water collecting small invertebrates and plant matter.
- It’s not only waterfowl and waders at Titchfield. There are also Pheasants and other birds that live on the land.
- Little Egret daintily wading through the water.
- Another Godwitt
- Teals smaller than mallards, males have a distinctive green flash on the side of its head.
